Who:
Chinese communist government enacts a policy that affects Chinese married couples and the general population of China.
What:
Chinese married couples are now capable of having two children instead of only being able to have one.
Where:
China
When:
October 29, 2015
Why:
China has been driven by a fear of an aging population negatively affecting their economics. To address this problem, they want to see a growth in the younger population and they were not seeing that with their previous one child policy. In the article the author mentions that about 10% of the population is over 65 years of age and likely to increase to 20%. This is a problem because it is a tradition for adults to take care of their aging parents, and currently the numbers are off balance. The Chinese communist government also hoped to see an increase of younger people in the labor force.
Democratic Values:
Liberty:
With the one child policy in place, the people of China were living under oppression in that they did not have the choice to have as many children as they wanted. The people in China were unable to live and give birth to children without oppressive restrictions, therefore they were right to liberty was taken away. The new two child policy that has been enacted allows parents to have two children and is a less oppressive measure that has been put in place.
Equality:
The issue of one child policy brought up the problem that female babies were being killed in some traditional rural families in child. Because of the fact that men were seen as more important figures in the traditional Chinese family and parents were only capable of having one baby, there was an increase in infanticide. Everyone who is born in this world is created equal and nobody’s life should be taken away based on their gender.
Individual Rights:
The people of China had been stripped of their right to have more than one children for decades. Having multiple children is a sacred right that all humans should possess. Although the two child policy that was put forth this past week is a step in the right direction, it is still oppressing the rights of the Chinese people to have as many kids as they may wish.

Bias:
Chris Buckley seemed to have views against that of the communist party of China and agreed with the new two child policy. We also believed that he thinks there should not have been a one child policy in the first place because of his use of facts showing that the population was going to decline with or without the policy.
