Helping the Poor

This article discusses the capitalist movement to fortify “third-world” countries that are poor and struggling. The United States Agency for International Development has promised to help farmers in third world countries ship their produce around the world. There has been many failed attempts to go through with this action and billions of dollars have been wasted on other projects without beneficial results. Since World War two, when the mission to create a better world through capitalist help was created, trillions of dollars has been spent on foreign aid by richer countries. Many global development agencies have had trouble conducting a plan that is beneficial and can be worked through, many theories have been created by richer countries on how to alleviate poverty but no such plan has prevailed. During the past decade there has been a revolution of theories and ideas that allow the poorer countries to decide what they need to alleviate poverty, may that be giving education to girls, more vaccinations, and/or better access to global markets for farmers, and the richer capitalist countries give a certain amount of money for the projects. Donors like large American companies such as Nike, would set aside a specific amount of money and then pay an extra $10 for every child that gets a vaccine or attends school. The idea of these projects are that government or donor money is spent when o outcome is achieved, which not only improves the lives of the poor but also saves American tax dollars from being wasted. Although these theories have been put in place there are still millions of dollars wasted on projects that won’t succeed. These sponsorships often seem as if they are designed to help American foreign-policy goals rather than to actually help the poor countries and the people in them. Lot’s of this money is going into countries that are geopolitically important countries like Afghanistan, Iraq, Jordan, and Pakistan. Although big corporations and countries dollars are disproportionately spent, the ideas and theories are beneficial in creating a new world. The article was not biased and showed both the pros and the cons of these policies and project. The article was more biased than a political statement or rant.
Democratic Values:

Common good: By banding together richer countries are trying to create projects and spend money in the right places to generate a better world. This project to fund farmers, give people the right education, and medicate those in need, helps people all around the world feel safe from disease, security from poverty/leading a poor lifestyle.

Justice: This topic has the democratic value of justice because it is only reasonable and fair that the richer countries help out those countries in need. It is not only reasonable by it is necessary for big corporations and countries to help out struggling countries and people.
