Summary-
Who: There were 570,000 protesters worldwide participating in marches all across the globe (50,000 marched in London, 45,000 marched in Sydney). In Paris, more than 200 people have been arrested during the protest and 174 people are still in custody. 40,000 delegates and representatives from all over the world will be meeting together at the COP21 Summit.
What: Protesters are taking action to “fix” climate change. These protesters argued to limit the rise of the global average temperature so it does not reach to 2ºC above than what it was during the pre-industrial times. Once the Earth goes past these two degrees it could have huge and dangerous effects on our climate. The main goal of the COP21 is to figure a way to reduce the emissions of greenhouse gasses.COP21 (Conference of the Parties) UN Paris Climate Summit is the final call to take any action against temperature risings of climate change.
When: Protest in Paris was November 29, 2015 and the COP21 Summit is November 30th- December 11th.
Where: Protests and marches are global and causing a stir in everyday life. The mayor of Sydney, Australia said that there was a record number of people marching in Sydney. The COP21 Summit is taking place in Paris, additionally protests occurred in Berlin as well. Some were incredibly sizeable with populations of 60,000 or more.
Why: Climate Change has been something that the world has battled for decades and we can’t wait any longer to take action. It is critical that our planet have a clean environment and a cooler temperature for wildlife and our life benefits. Climate Change is an imminent threat to society and must be changed and freedom of speech is also a basic right and must be protected.
Bias: It is pretty factual and narrative but there seems to be a bias saying that we should take action against climate change.
Democratic Values:
  • Liberty: People have the right to protest what they believe
  • Common Good: We are all on planet Earth together and we all want the best for the health and well-being of our planet.
